A PAINTING HOLIDAY ON ZAKYNTHOS IN 2009 Hello Artists, Chris Forsey and Susie Hunt invite you to paint with them on the Greek island of Zakynthos. With our wide experience in all water based media and the knowledge gained from eight years tutoring on Zakynthos, we can guide you through painting techniques and approaches to capture the special qualities of this beautiful island in your own paintings. We would also encourage and help you to have fun exploring new directions and techniques in your work. We are both representational painters with a contemporary and figurative basis to our work. Chris has 25 years experience in watercolour, mixed media and acrylics and teaching and running art courses and holidays for 10 years in Greece and UK. Susie has always worked in watercolour and also has years of experience as a teacher in this media at home and abroad. We are both enthusiastic teachers, happy to work with all ability levels and painters in other media We are keen for you to get the best from your painting holiday and Non painting partners also welcome. |

Chris and Susie – Art and Teaching … and getting the most from your painting holiday Our aim is always to encourage you to develop your won direction and incliniation with your painting. We hope to enhance your appreciation of the locations and subjects, and help you interpret them onto paper or canvas. We want to encourage you to translate sketches and paintings made on location into resolved paintings. We believe that in order to achieve the above we need to help you with the following: 1. Gain an understanding of colour and how to apply it to create depth, distance, harmony and impact. 2. Improve and become confident with sketching and maybe try difference tools and media for more rewarding results. 3. Try new ways of creating marks using traditional and contemporary equipment and tools. |

DETAILS OF THE HOLIDAY The place…The holiday is based at the quieter north end of the island in apartments that are 10 minutes walk from the small, sleepy port of Aghios Nicholaos, beach, bobbing boats and tavernas. The nearest town is Volimes. The scenery is dramatic, there is lots to paint and we will take you to our favourite locations. The accommodation…. We will stay at PANORAMIC APARTMENTS, owned and run by Mimi and his wife Roula. We regularly stay with them and recommend their hospitality. Rooms are double with twin beds, simple but comfortably furnished. There are fine views of harbour and sea from the terrace, breakfast under the bougainvillea and evening meals at local tavernas; it’s a good base for our holiday. The Apartments all have en suite facilities (shower and toilet), some have a kettle, and all have a fridge. Rooms are twin bedded. The accommodation is 1/3 mile from the port where there are shops and a pebbly beach. We paint outside and have use of plenty of tables and chairs, and have shade from the sun and shelter if the weather is less than perfect.. You may want to bring a beach towel and sandals ( more comfortable on the shingle beach). The water is clean and inviting. The Food... A simple continental breakfast is provided and evening meals are arranged within the cost of the holiday. The restaurants are mostly within walking distance, and sell authentic Greek food and plenty of fresh fish.Evening meals include wine but a kitty may be required for enthusiastic drinkers. The Transport... We will be hiring mini buses for getting around and you will be collected from and returned to the airport at the end of the holiday. You are welcome to hire your own transport if you want to be independent. We will take you to favoured locations and stop en route if subjects catch our eye…last year it was a field of poppies. The Price… The holiday price includes transport to and from the airport to accommodation; bed, breakfast, evening meal and tuition £650 per person, excluding flight ( £550 if sharing a room) YOU are responsible for making your own flight arrangements to Zakynthos. Dates for 2009 …Thursday 21 May to 28 May, and Sunday 31 May to 7 June |

FROM THE COMMENTS BOOK -Brilliant holiday, great group of people and you both worked hard and went out of your way to make sure everyone got the most out of it. Painting/Sketching trips out and lovely evenings. – It was all great and have learnt a lot. Could have done with a bit of info about what to bring. (Jeannie) -Thank you for an inspirational week. You were very kind to a beginner. I know I have a lot to learn but what a fantastic way to start. I think your holidays are going to be a big success. Next week is going to be dull at home. (Ann) -I have really enjoyed my week with you both. Your course was a good mixture of days out, days in and so inspirational and fun. The only thing I missed was my drawing board. (Anne) -One of the best Painting Holidays I have been on – I have enjoyed it immensely. Many thanks> (Peggy Lee) -A Wonderful week, thank you Chris and Susie for driving us to wonderful and interesting places to paint – I enjoyed every minute of my stay on this beautiful Island. (Helen Dunbar) -I have developed my art more in one week than I have in several years- emphases on the idea of sketching to work up finished paintings. You have helped to me to develop my own approach, and this sets you apart from other which are more rigid -‘This is how to do it’. From my point of view there is nothing I would change. (Mike) -In a nutshell, the holiday was excellent. The two of you worked very well together. The organisation and planning was well done and allowed for enough flexibility to adapt to weather conditions, odd people, food requirements, and relative artistic flair/ability (or lack of it), whilst still retaining enough structure to hang a purple hat on. The best bit was being with such varied and interesting people, in an environment conducive to art and relaxation. (Annie) |
